The American Classic- Derek Lam RTW AW15 (NYFW)

Are there any designers who arent going seventies this season?

Derek Lam showed the power of the 70's is more than a flash in the pan with his interpretation on this seasonsbiggest trend, yet still kept it effortlessly cool.
And what makes it 70's I hear you ask?... kick flare trousers- check, the use of suede/ ponyskin and leather-  check, belted trouser suit... hell yea!

A favourite of mine were the new hybrid loafer-ankle boot in rust patent leather with cream piping which was worn with bare legs and taken through the collection under kickflares and strapless dresses.

The use of contrast piping was replicated throughout the collection not only on the footwear but also on an oversized knitted sweater with cream trim and even down a navy kickflare to give the look of elongated stripes.

The must have fabric of the season- the double face wool, was used to update the robe coat and the signature 70's wool trench with contrast revers (You can't have a seventies collection without a trench now can you?) And the re-invention of pony skin tipped with leather gave the double breasted pea coat a modern edge.

The use of Rust head to toe in the sleeveless trouser suit made a strong statement, this collection was certainly not American Hustle Jennifer Lawrence, but more Bradley Cooper- girls dressing like boys yet still looking American classic cool.

Roll on next Autumn... x

Rebecca Taylor- Flares and Fringing (NYFW) AW15 RTW

The 70's vibe has hit Rebecca Taylor this hard this season, but in a more sexy, feminine way while still maintaining her signature look of ladylike coolness. Seventies floral 'William Morris' style printed dresses with high necklines, long sleeves and short hemlines keep things relaxed and easy to wear, while reusing the same print for a skinny kick flare which makes the collection more Janis Joplin from her psychedelic acid rock days.Glossy leather over knee boots and a metallic silver leather ankle boot were the key footwear peices in Teal and oxblood red. The Matalo wide leg pant and the tie neck sheer blouse rang alarm bells of 'Chloe' from AW15 Pre -fall, but I'll let her off as that was also a particular favouite collection of mine. The fringed wool coat and clean denim jacket were a nice alternative to sheepskin and nice to know no harm was done to any animals in creating a still inspiring and beautiful collection.  Must have peices from this collection; the sweeping maxi floral dress with high neck and long sleeves, the fringed wool jacket and the Teal leather over knee boots... yes please!!

Kanye West for Adidas orginals

New york fashion week opened with a bang yesterday with the first collection from  Kanye West and his collaboration with Addidas originals. For a collection which apparently took 18 months to design (doubtful), and was apparently inspired by the London riots (they were back in 2011), and which started wilfully late,  it was evident that this man is more arrogant and self obsessed than we ever gave him credit.

Not one to jump on the Kanye bandwagon, (as I actually bought his last album and do like his music,... who doesn't like Gold digger). But for a man who has been in and out of the press recently for his assholery at the Grammys, undermining the strongest musical performances of the night (Beck), that he would deny another artist there well deserved moment in the spotlight, I had higher hopes for this collection. The collection opened to his fierce voice over with "I'm here to crack the pavement,"  and "I want to create something better for you."  with 50 models in different shapes, sizes and genders walking out like an art installation. Even poor Kylie Jenner got in on the act, but managed to blag herself one of the better outfits; a black shearling jacket with the trade mark tan tights. Surprisingly model of the hour Kendal Jenner decided to sit this one out as that could have been career suicide. The only pieces worth mentioning are the distressed ripped oversizes sweaters, and the sheepskin coats and aviators. The MA1 bombers kept it utilitarian, but that's nothing new which  we ha vent already seen from the past seasons. And the boots will of course be the sell out piece from the collection. Apparently Justin Beiber was backstage already trying to snare himself a pair or two.The full body spanx's were my favourite pieces, (I think I actually have one of these already), making the models look like they're in full plaster casts, not to mention how un flattering these spanx suits over knickers can be... and should I mention the dreaded CAMEL and TOE? Or the American tan tights over the head?  Even Mrs Kardashian- West came in head to (Camel) Toe to support in one of his lovely creations; An over sized cameo jacket with tan leggings and grey knitted crop top. Without the jacket I would have thought Kim had just walked off the set of Flashdance as she even has the leg warmers to match!

Kanye, Yeezy, Yezus whatever your name is...can you please leave fashion to the designers, and stick to your artistry at creating pop hits.
Rant over.

Oh to be an Elie Saab bride....

As a bride to be, I find myself drawing inspiration from every angle for our impending nuptules... vintage, celebrity... couture! So its no suprise that I found myself drooling over the latest SS15 couture collection by Elie Sabb this week.
Brides to be get ready to feel pangs of jealousy that you dont have a fat bank account to fund this sort of gown. *They're tears of joy honest*

)Oh and if someone wants to know which one I'm particualry hankering over... Its the 2nd one down- Bardot embellished bodice with thigh split feather skirt)
