The American Classic- Derek Lam RTW AW15 (NYFW)

Are there any designers who arent going seventies this season?

Derek Lam showed the power of the 70's is more than a flash in the pan with his interpretation on this seasonsbiggest trend, yet still kept it effortlessly cool.
And what makes it 70's I hear you ask?... kick flare trousers- check, the use of suede/ ponyskin and leather-  check, belted trouser suit... hell yea!

A favourite of mine were the new hybrid loafer-ankle boot in rust patent leather with cream piping which was worn with bare legs and taken through the collection under kickflares and strapless dresses.

The use of contrast piping was replicated throughout the collection not only on the footwear but also on an oversized knitted sweater with cream trim and even down a navy kickflare to give the look of elongated stripes.

The must have fabric of the season- the double face wool, was used to update the robe coat and the signature 70's wool trench with contrast revers (You can't have a seventies collection without a trench now can you?) And the re-invention of pony skin tipped with leather gave the double breasted pea coat a modern edge.

The use of Rust head to toe in the sleeveless trouser suit made a strong statement, this collection was certainly not American Hustle Jennifer Lawrence, but more Bradley Cooper- girls dressing like boys yet still looking American classic cool.

Roll on next Autumn... x
